Elesh shouldn’t be known as my husband: Rakhi Sawant

Mumbai, They got engaged amid much fanfare on national television but item girl Rakhi Sawant is worried about her Toronto-based fiance Elesh Parujanwala.

She is worried about him accepting her sexy image, his financial independence and, above all, she doesn’t want him to be just known as “Rakhi Sawant’s husband”.

“Will Elesh be able to support me financially? I don’t want
him to be known as Rakhi Sawant’s husband. I need time.

“I agree Elesh is educated and he comes from a wealthy family. But all of it belongs to his father. He has nothing of his own in Mumbai, not even a home. He needs time to settle down,” Rakhi, who selected Elesh through NDTV Imagine’s reality show “Rakhi Ka Swayamvar”, told IANS in an exclusive interview.

She is also concerned about Elesh being comfortable with her sexy image.

“People are spreading dirty rumours about me. On the Internet they’ve morphed my face on naked bodies. Would Elesh be able to tolerate it?” asked Rakhi.

She is also disgusted by singer Mika’s attempts to gain mileage out of her name.

“I’m really tired of people using my name. I don’t want to give such people importance. I’ve learnt the hard way how to be dignified. Jesus has taught me to be calm. My good days are just beginning.”

Rakhi says she’ll marry Elesh only when he becomes economically self-sufficient.

“I don’t want him to be another Abhishek Awasthi (her ex-boyfriend) in my life. Yes, we’re engaged. I like him a lot. But how can I hand over my life to someone who isn’t earning a proper living?

“That’s why we’re going on another reality show to see whether we’re really as compatible as we seemed on ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’. I didn’t get enough time with him on that show. You and I saw his best face. Now I want to see the real Elesh.”

Her new show “Pati Patni Aur Woh”, which is likely to be aired next month on NDTV Imagine, is about parenting.

“I want to marry a man who can support me. In India, wives are supposed to be looked after by husbands, not vice versa. I don’t want him to come and stay in my house. I want to live in his house. I will wait for him to afford a house.

“I know Elesh is a decent guy. But is that enough? He has to be financially independent. He needed a place and a face to latch on to; that’s why he came on the show. Abhishek was so decent. But he was known as Rakhi’s boyfriend.”

Rakhi’s new show is about parenting, but kids give her a headache.

“I’ve a migraine problem. When a child cries, I get a severe headache. I don’t know how I’ll manage for a month with a stranger’s child.

“On top of that I’ve to cook on the show. I can’t cook to save my life. I don’t know how I’ll manage. I can’t even use make-up. Can you imagine Rakhi Sawant without makeup?” she said.

Asked how she’ll cope when she has her own kids, Rakhi replied: “Apna bachcha to har koi paal leta hai…jaanwar bhi. I don’t know how I’ll cope. I think I’m going to lose my cool completely. So far people have only seen the good Rakhi Sawant. Now they’ll see the real me.”

Speaking about ex-boyfriend Abhishek, she said: “I still consider him my good friend. I hope and pray he finds a good girl. If ever in life he needs me, I’ll always be there.

“If he needs me to be a dance partner in a reality show I’ll gladly do the needful. He has supported me a lot. I’ll always be thankful to him for getting my mother out of my life. That’s one good deed he did. If Abhishek hadn’t been there, I’d have not had the courage to break away from my family. I’d have been wallowing in mud.”

Rakhi Sawant to continue working post marriage

Finally, Miss Rakhi Sawant is going to turn into Mrs. Rakhi Parujanwala on August 2 on the smaller screen. However, Rakhi has refused to quit work and join her Toronto based husband. Moreover, she would also not want her husband to quit work and become as ‘Gharjamai’. So, Toronto-based entrepreneur Elesh Parujanwala has decided to shift base to Mumbai from Toronto.

Speaking about his future plans, Elesh said, “There won’t be any need for a long-distance marriage, or for Rakhi to join me in Toronto. I’ve already shifted a part of my business from Toronto to Mumbai and I intend to stay put in Mumbai for a very long time.”

On his taking part in this reality show, Elesh explains, “At first I was skeptical. In fact I initially expressed my misgivings to the program’s creators. I didn’t want my children to one day ask me why I married their mom on a game show. But I’m glad I came on ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’. It isn’t a game, though it may be a show being watched by millions. For Rakhi and for me it’s a matter of life and death.”

”I used to watch Rakhi Sawant in her films and her music videos. At that time I never thought I’d one day be asking her hand for marriage. Life is funny,” he laughs.

Apparently, Rakhi’s brother Ravi Kishan helped and guided her in choosing Elesh over and above other contestants. Says Ravi Kishan, “Elesh always stood out. And I told Rakhi this. The less said about some of the other contestants the better. One of them Manmohan Tiwari had so much attitude, it was almost like he was trying to be the small screen’s Ravi Kishan. Sadly the channel encouraged him to behave the way he did, arguing that it enhanced the TRPs. He behaved very badly with Rakhi. He had a girlfriend tucked away all the time. Why was he wooing Rakhi then? I told her Elesh was the best guy for her.”

My competition is with Ash & Priyanka: Rakhi

Controversy queen Rakhi Sawant always believes Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra and Rani Mukerji as her competitors and says people like Sambhavna Seth and Kashmera Shah are just that, item girls.

Bring this to their notice and without any provocation the two “item girls” spew acid on Rakhi Sawant.

Sambhavna Seth snaps, “I am a very real person; I can’t be a fake like her. Rakhi Sawant is too old for me to be even considered a competitor.

But I do know that after my ‘Bigg Boss’ stint, Rakhi somehow became quite insecure of me and started speaking negatively (about me).”

Another hottie Kashmera Shah has equally colourful words for Rakhi, “Rakhi is way too below my standards. She knows it and so she says that she can’t be compared with me.

She is frustrated and if she wants to take out her frustration by talking ill about me then it only shows she fears my existence. I have almost 25 films in my kitty, how on earth can she even compare herself with me!”

But come what may, Rakhi has emerged as a powerful figure in the entertainment industry with even a big reality show like ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’ on her name. “Although she is a fake, she is entertained by the media because people love to watch her drama, something which only she can pull off.

Her ‘faltugiri’ is time-pass for people,” retorts the Bhojpuri item girl, to which Kashmera adds, “The marriage thing was just to hoard publicity; she has been married ‘n’ number of times. The whole world knows how fake she is. I have nothing to do with her as talking about her is like spoiling the taste of my tongue.”

On Rakhi considering only A-list actresses as her competitors, Sambhavna laughs out, “Look everyone is aware what Rakhi actually is. Taking these names does not mean she can equal them at any level.

Rakhi is quite manipulative and she knows how to be in news.” Kashmera terms this as Rakhi’s desperation, “How I wish she realised her own standard.”

Since the two maidens have such ‘high’ regards for Rakhi, how about fixing a photo of her in their bathrooms and writing out bad words to vent out their anger?

“Why should I fix the pic of such a worthless bauble in my bathroom or anywhere else for that matter? She is not worth it,” shoots back Kash, even as Sambhavna laughs out saying she has better things to do in life than pasting Rakhi’s picture around.

“I am contented with my life. I do not have time to even think about her. I do not hate her at all. It is her way of living life, so she carries on in this way. I am not engaged in any cold war at all. Let her enjoy the fame for a few more years as her career is coming to an end very soon,” prophesies Sambhavna.

Madame Rakhi Sawant, your comments please?

Rakhi Sawant to marry Manas Katyal!

Rakhi Sawant visited Manas Katyal's family in Delhi recently. This was a part of her tour of prospective sasurals on Rakhi Ka Swayamvar. Manas' home was swarming with relatives and friends trying to catch a glimpse of his could-be star wife. The 22 year old media professional felt very confident that Rakhi was going to tie the knot with him by the end of the show.

The television drama queen shared a sizzling chemistry with Manas during her entire trip. She met his parents who seemed pretty liberal and Happy with his choice to marry Rakhi who is six years elder to him. Manas' mother said her son was matured enough to handle matrimony. Rakhi was also seen bonding with his sister an early sign that she might have zeroed in on her 'Mr. Rakhi Sawant'

Rakhi Sawant find the perfect man herself

A reality television show based on ancient Hindu rituals is aiming to strike a blow against India’s tradition of arranged marriages.

Rakhi Sawant, a Bollywood dancer, actress and television host, has refused a union brokered by her parents. Instead, she has promised to find the perfect man herself — with the aid of a prime time TV series.

Rakhi Ka Swayamvar (Rakhi’s Search for a Husband) has attracted more than 12,500 aspirant grooms from across the subcontinent. The show is due to begin later this month but the outspoken celebrity’s promise to marry on air has already whipped up controversy in what remains a rigidly conservative country.

The show’s producers admit to being shocked when Ms Sawant first pitched the idea for the show — but they deny being part of a stunt designed purely to win ratings.

Rather, they insist, the message is one of female empowerment.

The series will be based on the ancient but now largely neglected practice of swayamvara, where a young woman picks a husband for herself from a group of hopeful suitors, often by putting them through a series of tests.

The most famous example appears in the Ramayana, the 2,500-year-old Sanskrit epic, with Ram, the Hindu god, chosen as a husband by the heroine Sita after he wins a trial of strength by bending the bow of Lord Shiva.

A recent survey by the International Institute for Population Sciences found that 95 per cent of marriages in India today are arranged by the families of the bride and groom. More than 70 per cent of married women between the ages of 15 and 24 said that they were never asked their views on their future husband before their wedding. About a quarter said that their first sexual experience within marriage was forced.

“Over the past 500 years girls in India have lost the right to ask questions about who they marry,” Shailja Kejriwal of NDTV Imagine, the channel that has created Rakhi Ka Swayamvar, said. “I really hope this series, which is all about a strong woman choosing her own husband, will address that. It’s about empowerment.”

Conservative Hindus, who have vehemently opposed the infiltration of Western cultural ideas into India, are almost certain to object.

A spokesman for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, India’s most powerful hardline Hindu group, made plain his disapproval of the series. “We prefer arranged marriages,” he told The Times. “They are part of an old and good tradition.”

For her part, 30-year-old Ms Sawant has said that she is looking for a husband who combines the best attributes of Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan — three hugely wealthy Bollywood superstars.

The producers admit that it probably rules out the thousands of would-be husbands who have applied to appear on the show from India’s poor rural villages.

“We have to be realistic,” Ms Kejriwal said. “The series will look for a compatible husband. I can’t see a celebrity like Rakhi marrying somebody from a village. That would be foolish.” The series’ creators are keeping the details of the selection methods secret, but say that they will be adapted from “ancient Vedic practices” — similar to those outlined in the Ramayana.

The audience will be asked to vote for a winner, but Ms Sawant will make the final decision on whom she marries, helped by friends, family and a psychologist. Contestants are now being vetted, with background checks being run on each man’s health and wealth.

Explaining how the idea came to her, Ms Sawant said: “I am a cultured Indian woman with good values and I have reached a stage where I need a companion with whom I can share my love, joys, sorrows and success.

“I want to solemnise my marriage in the presence of all my fans who have been supportive of me throughout — and what better way than getting married on national television?”
