Burris was known to police as a repeat offender. It was reported that at the time of his death, he had a criminal record over 25 pages in length.
The other victims were found in the family's small furniture and appliance store in the small town of Gaffney, South Carolina (in Cherokee County). Stephen Tyler, 45, was killed and his 15-year-old daughter Abby was shot and seriously wounded.
